THE DIETETIC INTERNSHIP CERTIFICATE PROGRAMThe at the University of Delaware is an Internet based program that can be completed almost anywhere in the United States. This internship interprets the missions of the University, the College of Health Sciences, and the Department of Behavioral Health and Nutrition through its activities to promote philosophies to include education of students, service in the community and participation in professional organizations.Critical within this program are the requirements for interns to develop flexibility, initiative, and resourcefulness, creative problem solving and an ability to work with others. The program makes extensive use of State of the Art technology.This internship provides graduates of a didactic program in dietetics (DPD) with an opportunity to increase their knowledge of food and nutrition science, and to acquire competencies needed to practice dietetics in a variety of settings.
Upon successful completion of the program, each student will receive a verification of completion certificate and be eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians.Graduates of the Dietetic Internship at the University of Delaware are expected to be able to function as entry level practitioners in clinical, food service, and community dietetic roles. Each is expected to operate independently with high levels of professionalism and integrity. Each is expected to successfully challenge the registration examination for dietitians.Effective January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will require a minimum of a master’s degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). In addition, CDR requires that individuals complete coursework and supervised practice in program(s) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).In many states, graduates also must obtain licensure or certification to practice. Information on licensure/certification requirements can be found on the. Program InformationThe Dietetic Internship (DI) (Program Code #0451) at Western Kentucky University (WKU)resides in the Department of Applied Human Sciences (AHS) within the College of Healthand Human Services (CHHS).The DI program is a full-time, 9-month program, and will start the week before thefall semester begins at Western Kentucky University. The program will accept ten (10)interns each year. Students will complete 32 weeks of supervised practice, with 12weeks devoted to Medical Nutrition Therapy, 10 weeks to Community Nutrition, and 10weeks to Foodservice Systems Management. Supervised practice hours are 40 hours/week.The program includes 1208 hours of dietetic supervised practice experiences with aconcentration in Community Nutrition.This DI is a post-baccalaureate program, leading to a Graduate Certificate in DieteticPractice. The 12-hour graduate certificate will include the following didactic courses:).
HMD 583 Foodservice Systems Management (3). HMD 584 Community Nutrition (3). HMD 586 Medical Nutrition Therapy in Practice (3). HMD 587 Seminar in Concepts and Methods of Dietetic Practice (3)Interns will be required to attend the 10 day orientation, which will precede thestart of the University fall semester. Part of the HMD 587 Seminar in Concepts andMethods of Dietetic Practice course will be online with the course culminating thelast week of the internship in which the interns will have presentations, case studies,and an exit interview. For the remainder of the internship, students will be completingtheir required supervised practice hours and completing the other courses online (FoodserviceSystems Management, Community Nutrition, and Medical Nutrition Therapy in Practice).Supervised Practice SitesMost of the internship sites will be within two-hours driving time from WKU (BowlingGreen).
The interns will register for the courses during the semester in which theycomplete the respective supervised practice hours.Interns will be assigned to supervised practice sites throughout Kentucky. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
A minimum of 142 on Quantitative and 144 on Verbal on the Graduate Record Examination(GRE). A minimum of 800 on the GRE, if taken prior to August 1, 2011.
Welcome to the Bowling Green State University Internship Program in Nutrition and Dietetics.Interns in the distance program will attend a five day orientation on campus in late July/early August - the last week of Summer Session II. The following timetable provides an overview of the steps you must complete prior to beginning the dietetic internship in the fall.

Complete the Nutrition Care Process Tutorial - Complete prior to on-site orientation. Complete the if you plan to apply for federally subsidized loans. Please note that it is acceptance into the Graduate Certificate Program in Food and Nutrition that confers eligibility for loans – not acceptance into the Internship Program.
Contact your clinical site preceptors to determine any health requirements. (The internship handbook lists the tests typically required). Bring documentation of any that you have completed to the on-site orientation. You will have titers drawn while you are on campus. Submit a final official transcript that indicates the date that your degree was awarded, if you have not already done so - Complete prior to on-site orientation. This is in addition to to the final transcript you will send to the Graduate College.

Purchase and maintain health insurance coverage for the duration of the internship program. Program Requirements PLEASE NOTE:If you wish to pursue becoming a Registered Dietitian but do not have a F&N/dietetic undergraduate degree, please contact Carrie Hamady, Undergraduate Dietetics Director at. She will review your transcripts and help you plan your course of study to meet the didactic requirements based on the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics Standards in order to earn a verification statement.
This may require one or more years of undergraduate coursework on the campus of BGSU. MFN graduate courses may be used to meet some but not all of the didactic requirements.
If you do not have a F&N/dietetic undergraduate degree, completion of the MFN degree alone will not provide you with a verification statement toward a dietetic internship. To apply for admission, the applicant must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and coursework in biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, and nutrition.
List Of Dietetic Internship Programs
Students are selected based on academic performance, relevant work experience, letters of recommendation, and civic and/or college activities. The Master’s of Food and Nutrition degree program requires the completion of 39-40 total graduate credit hours. This includes:. 15 credit hours of Food and Nutrition core graduate courses (e.g. Micronutrients, macronutrients, clinical nutrition, community nutrition, weight management, and/or phytochemicals). 9 credit hours of cognate (minor) tailored to the student’s professional goals (e.g. Graduate courses in public health, microbiology, psychology, exercise physiology, education, scientific writing).
9 credit hours of research methods, statistics, and seminar. 6 credit hours of thesis or Master’s project or comprehensive examMost distance students choose the comprehensive exam option, in which all of the degree requirements can be completed online. If the thesis or Master’s project is chosen, the student is required to give an on-campus presentation upon completion of the thesis or Master’s project. Except for this 1-day visit to the BGSU campus if the thesis or Master’s project is chosen, all coursework towards the distance Master’s degree is completed on-line. Only on-campus MFN applicants may be considered for a graduate assistantship.The MFN degree can be completed in two years; however, students may complete the degree part-time.
The MFN degree must be completed in six years.To apply for admission, the applicant must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and coursework in biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, and nutrition.
